eBay fee questions
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee percentage applies to the total amount of the sale: item price, handling, the shipping the buyer pays, sales tax, and any other applicable fees — not just the item price.
What does it cost to sell a $100 item on eBay?
In most categories, 13.6% plus a $0.40 per-order fee. For a $100 sale with free shipping and no tax, that's $14.00, leaving you $86.00. Shipping and sales tax charged to the buyer increase the fee base.
Does eBay charge listing fees?
Your first 250 listings each month are free. After that, insertion fees are $0.35 per listing (non-refundable, charged again on relists and monthly Good 'Til Cancelled renewals). There is no separate payment processing fee.
What are eBay's fees for sneakers?
Athletic shoes that sell for $150 or more pay only 8% with no per-order fee, and listing them is free when the starting price is $150+. Below $150, the standard 13.6% plus the per-order fee applies.
What are eBay's fees for trading cards and collectibles?
Sports trading cards, collectible card games, non-sport trading cards, and comic books pay 13.25% (up to $7,500 per item) plus the $0.30/$0.40 per-order fee — slightly below the 13.6% standard rate.
How much do Promoted Listings cost?
They're optional. With a general campaign you pick an ad rate from 2% to 100% of the total sale amount and pay only when the promoted item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad. No ads are mandatory.
Worth knowing before you list
- eBay's percentage fee is charged on the sales tax the buyer pays (and on shipping and handling), even though you never receive the tax — a $50 item with $8 shipping and $5 tax is fee'd on $63. This calculator can't know the buyer's tax, so real fees run slightly higher in taxed states.
- There is no separate payment processing fee — processing is included in the final value fee, unlike Etsy or Depop.
- Every order carries a flat per-order fee: $0.30 for orders of $10 or less, $0.40 over $10 (waived on $150+ sneaker sales).
- Sold above $7,500? The portion above $7,500 is only charged 2.35% — this calculator applies the standard rate to the whole amount, so it slightly overstates fees on very large sales.
- Good 'Til Cancelled listings renew monthly, count against your 250 free listings each time, and cost $0.35 per renewal once you're past the allowance.
- Rates shown are for sellers without a Store subscription. Store subscribers pay different (often lower) rates in many categories.
